Dusty Finish

A match ending where the babyface appears to win the title, the crowd celebrates, and then the decision is reversed on a technicality. Named after Dusty Rhodes, who booked this finish repeatedly in Jim Crockett Promotions because he wanted the pop of winning without actually changing the championship. It's universally hated because it makes the audience feel cheated — which is the point, but also why nobody does it anymore without a very good reason.

"He won the title! Wait — the referee is waving it off. Something about a fast count. Dusty finish. The crowd is livid."
